Wicklow Way 2024 : Stage 3

40.00

The Wicklow Way trek from Lough Dan to Glenmalure is considered one of the most scenic and enjoyable sections of the entire trail. This challenging hike offers a diverse range of landscapes, historical sites, and breathtaking panoramic views.

This amazing trail ascends over Paddock Hill before descending to cross the Glenmacnass River via a footbridge. The trail then follows forest tracks to Glendalough. Glendalough itself is a monastic city boasting early medieval monastic ruins, including a round tower and several churches. Leaving Glendalough behind, the trail enters the heart of the Wicklow Mountains. Prepare for some moderate climbs that will reward you with panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, passing Poulanass Waterfall. The landscape then changes as you enter the Glenmalure Valley, a glacial valley known for its rugged beauty and rich history.

The Lough Dan to Glenmalure section offers a perfect blend of scenic beauty, historical sites, and moderate challenges. With its diverse landscapes and charming villages, this portion of the Wicklow Way is a great choice for hikers seeking a memorable outdoor experience.
