The hike from Glenmalure to Knockananna is a challenging but rewarding section of the Wicklow Way, offering stunning scenery and a true wilderness experience.

The initial part of the hike takes you through the beautiful Glenmalure valley, nestled between mountains. This section offers a moderate climb through pleasant forested slopes of Slieve Maan, before coming onto the Military Road, a historic route with scenic views. The trail continues with a loop around the upper slopes of Carrickashane mountain (508 meters) before descending to the Ow River valley, crossing Iron Bridge. The route then takes you between Ballygobban mountain  and Sheilstown Hill, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The final stretch involves a quiet road walk towards the tiny village of Knockananna.

The Glenmalure to Knockananna hike is a true wilderness adventure, offering breathtaking scenery and a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With its challenging terrain and stunning views, this section of the Wicklow Way is a must-do for  hikers seeking a rewarding experience.

There will be a bus transfer provided from car park to walking start point for each walk. Walkers then complete walk and their cars will be at finish of walk. We have walking guides, leaders, sweepers, stewards on the walk along with first aid and a support vehicle. There will also be refreshments to enjoy after each walk.
