The Clogheen Higher Loop starts in the village of Clogheen, one of the major junctions for National Waymarked Trails, the route leaves the village turning onto a quite country road, then gradually ascending through the forest to pick up a trail that gives the most stunning views of the Galty Vee Valley.
The valley with its forty shades of green below is surrounded on all sides by mountain ranges with the Galtees across the valley from the Knockmealdowns, bookended by the Ballyhouras to the west and Slievenamon and the Comeraghs to the east.
The trail then descends down to Clogheen, picking up the Blackwater Way, Avondhu Way and East Munster Way National Waymarked Trails on the final segment.
